Invention

They say that necessity is the mother of invention. But I feel like it is more like DESPERATION that does the trick for me.

You may remember that I got the ornaments off the tree 20 days ago. For all that time we have been enjoying the lights in the evening. And I have been getting progressively sick of the tree. The suggestion that the tree come down made children weep and grown men whine--not because of the work of taking it down, but because he didn't want to lose the ambiance.

But no way was the calendar flipping to February with the tree still standing. Enough was enough.

So this morning I took down the tree. Didn't even take me a half an hour.

But then for the real dilemma. If I put the tree in the tree bag, I would be stuck with a giant bag sitting around for potentially a LONG time. It is too big and heavy for Mark and I to get into the attic alone. So I would have to wait until my brother in law AND Mark could be here at the same time. Next weekend, if I was lucky. And I didn't want to wait.

So here was Plan B. I cleared a space in the Attic, spread open the tree bag, and carried the tree parts up to the attic and filled the bag there. It's not very organized--stuffing things in a bag in a crawl space with a headlamp on your head is not very efficient. I may complain when it comes to next year and I have to put it back together again, but for now I am just so excited that I won't be tripping over the giant green bag and that I can think* about reclaiming the living room.

*I say think, because right now it looks like Chase and Ellis have decided to take the newly opened space and make a fort using all the couch cushions.
