I have never been a supporter of "The Power of Positive Thinking." The phrase makes me think of new age philosophy that tries to make us our own god, with a secret power to fix our life with the mere thoughts in our heads. Scary.
But this morning on "Revive Our Hearts," Nancy Leigh DeMoss shared a twist that really struck home with me. As a Christian, the Positive Thinking is really focusing on God and turning your life over to him. [Psalm 37. Trust in Lord. Delight in the Lord. Commit your way to the Lord.]Instead of dwelling on the stresses, wrongs and evils in our lives, we should be packing them up and handing them over to God. The positive is knowing that God has a plan for our lives and can use these things for His Glory. In this scenario, things may not get better, or become what we envision. But God has a Greater Vision. An infinitely better, Divine, Imagination.
For me this is OH SO HARD. One of by biggest struggles is LETTING GO. I HATE the feeling of being out of control. I hand it over and then ask for it back... or I start to offer it up and then say "Maybe tomorrow instead." Seems so strange that one of my biggest weaknesses is my desire to be STRONG!
So, I am resolving to pack it up and hand it over. To try to focus on God's great love for me and his plan for my life. And to try not to die from anxiety in the process. Pray for me, 'cause this is going to be hard!
