Hard Earned Blueberries

I am in possession of some delicious Ohio grown blueberries. But getting them was no easy task.

It required two trips out to Hiram. The first was a total bust, as they we're closed for ripening.

The second trip, a week later, was one that bore fruit. Literally. Even if was small and hard to find among the bushes. [after all, this is the end of the season]

And while Grandma Jean and I plugged away at filling buckets, Chase and Ellis plugged away at eating berries, picking some, and then Chase gave into the hot muggy day and started whining and crying to leave. And yet we picked away some more.

7 lbs of berries and we were done. [Last year, in about the same amount of picking time we had well over twice that amount] My mother generously let me take all the berries.

So I have frozen some. And trying to decide what to do with the rest.

Yesterday, it was an awesome Peach Blueberry Pie [With Hiram grown Monroe Peaches.] Here is a peak inside.

I am loving the locally grown produce. Nothing like fruit ripened on the tree and then right to my house!

Not even a sticky crumb remains from it. Yum.

But I don't see another pie in the future. Making pie crust is so messy. And time consuming. I think we'll make a peach blueberry cobbler next. Doesn't that sound yummy?

Yopu could make some homemade blueberry popsicles. Those would be good!
