Today is Presidents Day. And although at our house the only real tribute to the day has been Chase doing the "We have no school today, Cha Cha Cha" dance, I thought that I should acknowledge Ohio's proud presidential history.
William H. Harrison
Benjamin Harrison
Ulysses S. Grant
William McKinley
William Howard Taft
Rutherford B. Hayes
Warren G. Harding
And the one with the closest ties to my life, since Hiram is the stomping grounds of my youth and later my Alma Mater, is James A Garfield.
Garfield was born in Orange in Cuyahoga County and then went to school at Hiram(when it was just an academy and not a college) He would come back and teach there as well. When the Civil War started he returned to Hiram and lead a large group of Volunteers.
So, here is some Ohio Pride. Saying happy Presidents Day to our eight. You might not be the best and brightest of the bunch. But you are ours and we are proud to claim you.
